CAAST-Net collaborates with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Senegal to run a stakeholder conference on innovation in Africa-Europe S&T cooperation in Dakar.

The role of innovation in translating R&D outputs into novel technologies, goods and services for economic growth and development is high on the S&T policy agenda in Europe, in Africa, and in the bi-regional dialogue on S&T cooperation in the context of addressing common societal challenges.

With the aim of enriching the debate on the role of innovation in the context of bi-regional S&T cooperation, CAAST-Net is collaborating with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MRS) in Senegal to run a joint Africa-Europe conference on the subject.  Taking as its themes the topics of the EC’s 2009 Coordinated Call for Africa, food and water security and health, the event will bring together experts from a diversity of sectors, with the common strand of innovation, to stimulate mutual learning and exchange.

The event is anticipated for the second half of April 2012 and will take place in Dakar, Senegal where the event will be hosted by MRS.  Details will be made public through the CAAST-Net website ( early in the New Year.

CAAST-Net is a joint Europe-Africa project supported by the European Union’s seventh framework programme for research and technology development, the goal of which is the reinforcement of scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and Europe.  The project was conceived against the background of a global consensus that capacity in scientific and technological RD&I is essential to economic competiveness, sustainable development and ultimately to poverty reduction.
